CaneCare is UMMG’s stepping stone towards implementing an Electronic Medical Record. Designed by UMCET staff, CaneCare is a hybrid medical record system that provides UMMG physicians with an electronic patient chart that can be accessed from any location using a web browser.

     
Patient data from the University of Miami Hospitals and Clinics’ paper charts are scanned,
indexed, and appended to the patient’s electronic chart within 24 hours of the visit.
   
Patient data that is automatically sent from other UMCET applications (transcription application, and ancillary department systems including lab and radiology) for archive within CaneCare.
   
UM care providers have on-line access to this information based on a secured “need-to-know”.
   
This innovative solution provides our clinicians access to a longitudinal patient record while UMMG evaluates and plans the transition to an EMR.
