UMHC and ABLEH HIM Departments are responsible for coding all patient visits including inpatient, observation, and outpatient visits. The coding staff at each respective hospital utilizes the 3M Encoder system to help assign the appropriate diagnosis and procedures codes.

     
Ensures that diagnosis and procedures codes are assigned the appropriate ICD-9
and CPT-4 codes.
   
Ensures that these codes are sequenced in the appropriate manner for appropriate
reimbursement to the facility.
 
Provides various research tools to the coder (i.e. Coding Clinics, Medical Dictionary, etc.)
 
Ensures that coders are coding based on appropriate compliance guidelines.
